Just learned that I have a snow day for my first day of classes. Boo. I think I'm the only person unhappy about this.

Anyway, since I had nothing to do today, I decided to work on Maiev as much as I could. I gessoed the hell out of my gauntlet pieces and now three of five fingers are smooth enough. I also made the pattern for my boots, which was fun. Especially when my roommate walked in and my leg looked like this:

The pieces should be ready for Worbla when I get home next.

Today I decided to tackle some armor.

For those of you interested, I'm using Kamui Cosplay's wonderful book. It's super helpful.

So I'm back at home for 6 weeks and have begun the massive undertaking that is this next costume. I started with the cloak, because sewing is what I know. I bought two yards of a beautiful but cheap velvet fabric and simply gathered (ruched? I don't know the proper term) the two yard side at the top to create the circular effect. Cloak!

Then came the trim. I got the remnants of a large bolt of faux "grizzly fur." I figured I could just piece together everything, since it's just trim and a few places on the gloves and boots.

I admit I didn't get much done today. But here's what I have:

So I find myself embarking on a few different projects, cosplay-wise. I threw around a lot of ideas: the flight suit I said I was going to make (materials were too hard to find), the card Angelic Destiny from Magic: The Gathering (too obscure), Impa from Skyward Sword (not a stick). Eventually, though, my friend came up to me saying she wanted to be Sylvanas Windrunner.

Part of me was like, oh goodness, more WoW things? And then part of me was like, goody! More WoW things! And then I started looking into actual WoW characters and reading the lore that I never really got into whilst playing the game. Besides Sylvanas, I believe the most badass female characters to be found in the lore are found within the Night Elf race. (Maybe I'm a little biased.) Tyrande would be a good option, but the detailing on her gown is really intense and her new model looks kind of silly. So I went for the next most powerful and probably more awesome option: Maiev Shadowsong!

I am very excited to get started with it and to make my first armor costume. I hope it ends up looking as awesome as I envision it. I hope.

So then, my sister's fiance comes up to me and asks if I would maybe please make an Arthas (The Lich King) costume for him. Goodness gracious. Look at this guy.

I mean, after staring at it for a while it started to look pretty doable, but still. That's a lot of materials and time and everything. I felt like I couldn't say no, and it'll be good practice, I'm just not as enthused about it as I am about my own costume. I guess because I don't get to wear it. But he's paying for materials and labor, so I can't complain. I get to get money doing something I enjoy!

Maiev is going to happen this December (I hope I can get it done in that time frame. Otherwise it's coming back to my dorm with me.) Arthas is going to happen when it happens. And I'm going to be helping my friend with her Sylvanas. So this'll be a fun filled adventure!

New costume yaaaay! I wanted to make something simple for Halloween, and since I recently recovered my old Fire Red game, I decided that I would be Leaf!

I decided to darken the colors from that picture, since in the game the colors are much more intense. So here's what I have!

Sorry about the poor quality picture.

The skirt, shirt, and socks are all made from scratch. Making shirts is difficult! So now all I need is to do the red stripes on the shoes and hat, the bag, and the little gadget on the bag's strap. Oh, and cut my wig which hasn't arrived yet. But I'm very excited to finish this costume!

I was feeling pretty down today, so in an effort to cheer myself up, I decided to try on the whole getup for the first time. Sorry about the recent nelfy pic spam.

I'm in the mood to make things again! And this time I'm going science fiction.

I've entertained the thought of a BSG flight suit before, but they look so intricate and difficult that I shut myself down. Well, now I'm here, bored and ready for a challenge.

First, I'm in need of a pattern. I'm entertaining this one, but I'm worried it looks too feminine. Of course, I can always modify it, which I'll have to do with all the pockets and such, but I don't know if I should go for a bulkier pattern.

Second, I need material. I have no clue if I can find metallic dark olive vinyl/similar material, or if I'll just have to make it out of something and then spray paint it.

I'd probably wear it like the second picture, with the tanks showing, but that raises another question. Where do the sleeves go? Also, should I bother making a vest, or just go with the suit?

Anyways, I'm raring to go. All I lack is time and funds, both of which should be available sometime in the near future. Just wanted to get this written down before I forget.

My ears arrived today! I messed around with them, and while they still need work, I got them to stay put where I want them to be.

These babies are about 10 inches long.

Also note the markings. I found a lip stain pencil that does the job perfectly. I didn't purple myself up for this one because I'm in the process of mixing pigment with some very light foundation.

Anyways, I'm super excited about all of this. I'm nearly done!
